Self-image

Even though I see the beauty in others, tell people it and love them for who they are… doing the same for myself feels like an endless struggle. No matter how many times people tell you you are beautiful the way you are, if you don’t feel it yourself it won’t make a difference.  I think everyone has struggled with this at some point in their lives, or are still struggling with it. I often find myself disappointed in how other people, society and the media tells us how we ‘should’ be. We ‘should’ not be any way except ourselves. This false unrealistic beauty image is damaging. Damaging to your thoughts, our self-worth and the love and respect we feel for ourselves. The media image is not beauty, it is an unattainable false image that cannot ever be reached by anyone and shouldn't. And I don’t just mean physical appearance. The difference between people is beauty. The fact that everyone is unique, that there is only one you, that everyone has a story full of marvellous happy, sad and everything in between experiences, that is what beauty is to me. We all have passions, dreams, hopes, loves…. Things that make us the way we are. We should celebrate our uniqueness. We are beautiful the way we are and no one should ever tell you otherwise including yourself.
